Horwich Honey uses the extraction, filtering and settling process as its preferred method of obtaining the honey from the hive. This ensures the honey has nothing added nor has been the subject of any heat treatment. Horwich Honey has had no pasteurisation or sterilisation processes applied to it.

The Honey can therefore be considered “raw” honey.

As well as tasting great, raw honey has a variety of potential uses: studies suggest that local, raw honey can be effective in relieving the symptoms of Hay Fever and Asthma as it contains a small amount of local pollen aswell as natural antioxidants, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. Raw honey can assist in the healing of wounds and burns by spreading a small amount to the affected area.

It is important to note that although raw honey has endless benifits; it can potentially be harmful for very young children due to the very small risk of infant botulism.

It is advised by the World Health Organisation that children under 12 months should not consume raw honey in any instance -

A reminder of this will be found on every jar of Horwich Honey.
